Daliborka Đurić Knowledge Will Save the World

The opening will be on Monday 18 December at 8 pm. The artist showcases her work in the Big Gallery of KC Grad for the first time and with a very unique concept of merging tapestry and painting. She graduated and finished her post graduation studies at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, and she has been actively exhibiting sine 1995, both in numerous group shows and solo. In 2006 she has also organized 16th Tapestry Biennale of ULUPUDS (Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia). Đurić has been awarded several times for her work, and one series of drawings titled What Happened to My Ass is in the collection of a Polish museum Pastwowe na Majdanku in Lubin.
Experimenting with different embroidery and textile techniques and treating them in a painterly manner, Đurić manages to transform traditional applied art techniques into contemporary art domain using contemporary and important subjects and motifs. In this way she creates a tapistery-painting that's both critical and socialy engaged.
Two parts of the exhibition create a world of caricatures, by using various techniques, from combinations of manual and machine embroidery to quilting. The parody effect itself is achieved both by socially engaged topics and by combining the techniques of embroidery on a canvas. Đurić explores the virtual world of children, the basics of interpersonal communication and the longing for the world of new technologies, but executing her tapestry paintings using old technologies, or more precisely techniques
The exhibition will be opened until December 30th.
